Episode 13: All So Clear

Her legs came to life on their own and obeying their command, she darted away from that wealthy district she ended up in. It was curiosity which led her to playfully spy on him once spotted walking on the same neighborhood she strolled in to make some errands. Thanks to it she caught him receiving close attentions from another woman even after declaring his love. So this is what he had been hiding during those weeks in America, the secret he kept quiet surely to not let go off her. "He had a girlfriend all this time and I was just a fool for falling for his bullshit!" She persisted as she climbed in the bus that would drive her back to the firm. The more she reminisced of their time together and his betrayal, the more her rage increased. How could he do this to her? Did he take her that much for a dimwit? "He better not talk to me, he better not even look for me. I want nothing to do with him."

Contrary to her wish, Paul called the next day to say hi and invite her out for a coffee. Such was her anger she hung up on him with no chance to reply and did the same days later. "What's her problem? Why the sudden harshness?" was his thought. Disconcerted by her rudeness he decided to pay a visit when occasion arose. There had to be a reasonable explanation for her conduct.

The door opened and revealed an annoyed girl with a cross look on her eyes, which worsened seeing the man outside. "How dare do you come here? I can't believe you had the nerve..." "Excuse me!" was his bewildered response. "Why have you hung up on me? Why the animosity? What did I do to disturb you?" "What did you do? How about: you lied to me?" "What do you mean I lied to you?" "Cut the bullshit Paul. I know your secret. You have a girlfriend and you never told me about her!" The unveiling of the inevitable truth proved shameful for him, aware of the consequences this would inflict upon both, especially on her. Anguish took over him as he could only mumble helplessly: "...Melissa, I..." "Don't deny it. I saw you enter her house in that posh neighborhood she lives in. And before you ask, I was there doing some errands." "Oh God...I never meant to hide it from you, but I never knew how to bring up the subject." "Bullshit! You didn't tell me because you wanted to keep on sleeping with me." "What? Nonsense!" "Really? Then why did you do it?" "I...I didn't want to lose you dearest..." "I was right then, you wanted me to keep being your fuck buddy." "How can you say that? Melissa", explained Paul softening his voice, "you're the loveliest thing that has ever happened to me, along with my sons. The three of you have brought great delight to my life but you...you are so sweet, so pure. You're my precious little girl and knowing so, I didn't want to lose you."

A doubt kept hanging over Melissa's mind. "Why did you say you love me when you have a girlfriend?" He was at a loss. Nothing would be gained if he lied. "I wanted to be with you from the very beginning but there was so much on the way. First Damon, then the age difference, and now this. It's true, I have a relationship but you arrived and I couldn't help fall in love with you. So much I wanted you, I cast impediments aside and allowed my feelings to guide me. Do you know what it's lke to love someone but knowing we can't be together 'cause I'm not free?!" The fierce whisper, unleashed in a quiet rage, flowed with such despair he was perplexed by his reaction. This was not normal in him. Had the girl changed him that much? "Paul, I'm not sure you realize something: you cheated on your girlfriend with me. That's just wrong." "...I love you dearest..." "Oh no, I'm not gonna be the other woman, out of the question. I won't be the reason for the end of your relationship. How can you even consider it?" "I never said so! Listen, I love my girlfriend but from the first moment I saw you I've been feeling the same for you and have lived in torment ever since. How do you think I feel comprehending I'm entagled in this matter and have no idea what to do?" "Well, you should've figured it would turn out this way before seducing me. Now get the fuck out of here." Next thing Paul noticed, he was pushed out of the apartment with all the strength Melissa had within her and in the same fashion slammed the door to his remorseful face. A sigh escaped from his lips. There was nothing more to do. At least not at the moment.

The bell rang, interrupting her television viewing. It had been two days since Paul's disastrous visit and the idea of seeing him again filled her with such acrimony, she stood up swiftly and went to the entrance, determined to sent him off. When opening the door she did not see that charming, chivalrous rogue, but the melancholic, headstrong suitor she had rejected weeks ago in the pursue of passion. "What are you doing here?" Damon stepped in without permission, walking almost languidly to the couch. "I had to come see you. These days without you have been unbearable." Melissa sat down silently, stunned to see him after declining him over Paul stupidly. "Listen, I..." "Sorry, please let me do the talking first, I have to get it off my chest." He sat up straight and faced her, ready to narrate all that had been accumulating inside him. "Those last weeks in America I felt so lonely. Gigs and fans weren't enough to make me happy, there was something missing. Or I should say: someone. And once back in London I thought: what have I done wrong? Did I make her feel bad with something I said or did?" Melissa responded right away: "Hey, not in the least. You're not like the assholes out there." "Then why did you ignore me? If you claim I'm a great person, I can't explain your coldness not only on those days, but in fact on the whole tour." Could she tell him? That his friend was a despicable scoundrel who took advantage of her youth and did with her as he pleased for almost the entire month? Could she? "As I told you, I was the one with the issues. I realized you're an amazing guy who deserves someone better, I'm too plain for you." "Don't say that. How can you belittle yourself? You're everything I ever wanted: you're smart, sensitive, understanding, sweet, not to mention pretty. You're perfect for me." "Please stop Damon, you're making me feel worse." "But why? Everything I say is true. I adore you Melissa. I haven't felt this way since I was probably your age, or even younger, and it's because of you." Why did he love her much? Couldn't he even doubt her one bit? She was not permitted to answer, not with Damon kissing her lips and neck. "I've missed you a lot", he whispered between signs of affection. It felt marvelous, the parted lips tasting her skin softly. Small sobs of craving escaped her mouth as her pleasure increased with every kiss. Soon enough though, reality set in. She had to think straight before things heated up, her head free of all emotion. "Ok, stop...hold on please...no, wait Paul..."

He ceased abruptly. She saw a bewildered look on the handsome face. Why did he stop? "What did you say?" "What...?" "Did you just mention Paul?" "What? Paul?" Did she really name him? "No I didn't." "Yes you did, I heard you." "Did not!" "Yes you did! Don't deny it!" Melissa's horrified expression clearly revealed something was not said, something he speculated on but disregarded as pure absurdity product of his jealousy. "Why did you mention him? Why?!" With every question his voice became the more anxious. What to do? "Damon...I don't..." Her denial of a proper answer increased his fear. It couldn't be that, couldn't it? "No, it can't be it. Please tell me it's not that!" Tears of guilt crept on her eyes. Damon exhaled a loud sob at the sight of them. He hurriedly stood up and looking at her intently, turned around and headed to the door. Melissa followed him to attempt an explanation. "Damon..." "No." "Please listen..." "No, don't touch me." His voice was steadier but not his face, pain and anger in it as he opened the door and left the apartment, not looking back at a regretful, grieving Melissa.
